I am amazed at the change this made in my home! Our hardwood staircase had always been carpeted except for the edges. I was tired of the old look and wanted to have just wood. My husband started searching for a local, independently owned business and found Stand Up Flooring. Wajciech came out the next day and gave us estimates for sanding and refinishing the stairs and upstairs balcony and railing. A professional assessment is recommended to determine the best approach. You would be surprised how many extensively damaged staircases we were able to restore to the point of looking very good. The hardest to restore are the stairs that have or had a carpet installed on them, as there will be many holes from staples, that even after patching and staining are visible.
Is stair restoration messy and dusty?
Sanding stairs will generate dust, like any sanding, however doing the round details or sides of the woodwork will create a little more dust as we will have to hold the orbital sanding machine at different angles. When redoing just steps, there is not a lot of dust, because we vacuum all the stairs multiple times after every paper grit and in between. As well as, use dust containment systems to minimize the mess and ensure a clean, safe environment during and after the process.
